What kid doesn't love boxes? I know Izzy does. So I thought this activity would be a true gem and I originally found the idea for it here. I had collected three boxes I thought I could use for the activity. The first box I made into a ribbon box. I hung some ribbons off the front of the box and then poked holes in the top to string ribbons through. This box was big enough for Izzy to crawl into and play with the ribbons in. The second box was a rice box. I made colored rice using a recipe I found here. I made four different colors, filled snack sized ziploc baggies with the rice and taped them to the box. Surprisingly, this was Izzy's favorite box to explore and although he did end up ripping off all of the baggies, he still loved playing with the rice baggies all the same. The last box I used was a diaper box. I cut square and triangular holes in the boxes and put a stuffed gorilla inside for him to feel through the holes to make for a fun sensory experience. We did this activity right before dinner time when he is usually the most grumpy so how much he liked this activity is debatable. It kept him entertained for 10 minutes while I was cooking dinner which, for him, is spectacular but ordinarily I would just consider that an average activity. However, I did leave the boxes out for an extra day or two and he enjoyed playing with them during that time. I just happened to be making spaghetti for dinner and didn't realize that the box of spaghetti noodles was wide open when I took it out of the cupboard and consequently a good portion of my noodles were lost and I decided to just let Izzy and his daddy play with them while I finished making dinner. He had more fun doing that then playing with the boxes.
